Starting in 1988, Dr. Huang Jianyuan was engaged in investigation into Chinese folk societies. With a focus on qualitative analysis of social development and social capital, Dr. Huang has also published many related books and papers. He participated actively in the founding of ICO. He used to be an assistant professor at a military institute in Nanjing and since the beginning of 1999 has been an editor and a journalist at Xinhua Daily.
