As the only speaker from factory, Mr. Zhang Yisheng, general manager of ChaiDa Garment factory in Kaiping, Guangdong, was highlighted in the workshop. The photograph of a woman worker in Chaida factory was published in Time, issue of June 2005. Hereby, many journalists were interested in the story of Chaida and its brand companies, and ICO. Mr. Zhang illustrated the pressure and challenge of Chaida factory as a common supplier of famous brand in globalization, and Chaida's choice. Some journalists even came to Chaida factory directly after workshop.
At the end of schedule, the participants visited ICO. It happened to be Sunday, and there were rested workers everywhere in Anhua Industrial Area. These young workers were so fashionable. Some reporters surprised: you are not very sure of who is migrant worker just from the appearance. Some workers came to classes in MWCC as usual. Facing the question of reporters, they seemed to be relaxed and unaffected. In English class, three handsome American young boys, volunteers of ICO, were discussing English words with the students, almost 20 migrant workers. Many reporters took photos on this interesting moment.
After workshop, ICO collected and subsequently studied the questionnaire about this workshop. The result shows that most of participants thought the workshop strengthen their understanding of CSR (see figure 1); promote the work of media on CSR; push them to focus on labor rights and CSR continuously (see figure 2). More than half of participants considered the speech of speakers include the most constructive views (see figure 3). CSR, labor shortage and SA8000 are the three topics that participant concerned most. This workshop has achieved the expected objective, and provides good experience for ICO to hold the next annual forum.
